How to store downloaded apps on an sd card
Not all SD cards are equal , and a less expensive, slower SD card will slow down your apps and phone. You can then choose to move photos, files, and some apps to the new device, if you like. If not, you can choose to migrate this data later.
This will erase the contents of the drive, so be careful and ensure you have everything backed up first. That SD card will likely be a bit slower. You should not see any dialog box display. Instead, you should see a list of apps and some options on the top of the app screen. If you want to automatically install new apps to the SD card rather than the internal storage, we recommend doing that now. To do this, tap the menu button three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of the screen. Make sure the first three check boxes are all selected.
So, data files for apps installed on the SD card will still be stored on the internal storage. Use the back arrows at the top of each screen in Link2SD to go back to the previous screen. You can also use the back button on your device. Any files you transferred from your PC to the SD card are on that partition. Word is also taking up a total of MB of space on the internal storage. However, we can get beyond that limitation. We open Link2SD and scroll in the list of apps until we get to Word and tap on it.
Notice the white box being called out on the image below. That indicates how much space is being used by the app on the internal storage. The orange box below that shows the amount of space the app is using on the SD card. We want to move as much as we can of that MB to the SD card as possible. It just seems to be there as a convenience for apps that can normally be moved to the SD card, so you can use Link2SD as a general app manager.
Leave the first three file types selected. Notice that To illustrate an app being installed directly to the SD card, I installed a simple Notepad app from the Play Store and it was installed on the SD card, bypassing the internal storage, as shown below. If you remove the device, any apps you moved to the SD card will not be usable without the SD card. This may seem like a complicated process, but if you have an Android device with limited internal storage and has an SD card slot like we do, it can be a life saver.

Best Apple Watch. These things are supposed to be running ExFAT. My 8th generation device reads ExFAT with no problem. I mean, really?? What the hell is wrong with Amazon? ExFAT is free. Is this something they can fix with a software update? Perhaps a future fix?
Or should I load it up with Amazon movies and sell it? This absolutely ridiculous… I spent 30 minutes researching, reading instructions looking at photos etc attempting to install a micro sd card into my Amazon 10 Tablet. It was extremely uncomfortable to push in successfully and broke in half trying to get it out after it was not identified. Yes, I was attempting to put it in the correct way. If I format my sd card and use it as expanded storage to download movies and music can I still remove and use with a media player into tv to watch the movies?
But if you format it as portable storage for downloads and other files, then yes, you can revive the card and use it with other devices. I bought a tablet but i cant install app in them can you please tell me. Also I cant see access any storage of my Fire HD 10 while connected to my computer? Neither Win 7 nor Win 10 shows any storage at all. On power-up it has previously shown the disk icon on top left of the screen, which I swiped to see the contents…..
Would anybody know why this is? Can anyone tell me why I cannot see or access any storage of my Fire HD 10 while connected to my computer? I never had much luck moving apps to the SD card. Sure, I CAN move the apps. The apps work a couple of times, but start having intermittent problems, then eventually quit working. The SD card works just fine for music, video and pictures, but there are too many problems installing apps on it. Now I only install apps on the internal storage.
The HD 8 has 16gb of storage, which seems to be enough for now. Thanks for writing this very complete article. I personally have never had any issues with using an SD card with either of my Fire Tablets. I like that it allows moving apps to the SD card so easily. Can anyone help? How do you use apps already on an sd card to a fire tablet 5.
I just bought a 32gb pny as card it clicks in and shows it in the settings but it will not let me transfer or download anything to it.
Any help? Before you proceed, please think carefully about whether the reliability of map storage is more important for you than the space it occupies.
Many people rely on Memory-Map for critical outdoor navigation, so if reliability is important to you, we strongly recommend storing your maps in internal memory. Changing the Storage location for map downloads.
There is no limit to the size of the map, as long as you have space on the card. Note that turning on the External SD Card option does not have any effect on maps that you have already opened. A map that is partially downloaded in internal memory will continue to be downloaded to internal memory. It is best to delete any maps that you have already partially downloaded and then start a fresh copy on the SD Card.
The app uses a new file format designed specifically for SD Cards, so that is the best way to do it. If you have some maps in the Memory-Map PC app that are not available for download, then proceed as follows:. We do not recommend copying maps between internal memory and the SD card.
The app uses a different format for newly downloaded maps in order to get around the 4GB file size limit.
